I got the chance to say hello to Chicago’s previous mayor- Rich Daley- yesterday when he stopped by our studios to tape some segments for “Sports Edition” with Kenny McReynolds. The Mayor, dressed in summer togs ( I believe that was a White Sox cap he was wearing!) and looking casual and relaxed, shared a few laughs with us, and is feeling good these days. You can catch the program featuring his guest shot locally at 7am on Saturday on Me-TV, and Sunday at 10am on the U Too.
Okay- things are getting serious regarding this “Little Boots Rodeo” appearance in Elk Grove Village this weekend. With their Mayor Johnson alleging that I CHEATED last year in the duck race (he claims they have a photograph of me releasing my duck too soon!), something tells me they might just have something up their sleeves for the pig race- especially since the loser (not the losing pig- the person whose pig loses) is officially designated to be sawed in half by magician Mr. D – perhaps I should wear a Kevlar girdle. There is a secondary rumor of someone getting their head chopped off on Sunday… and I didn’t hear anything about the Mayor being in attendance that day, but I will be. Hmmm…anyway, remember, if you come out either day, please bring a can of food to help out the Elk Grove food pantries. You’ll find more information about when I’ll be there under our “appearances” tab…and, by the way, thanks to Chicagoland Radio and Media website maven Larz for kindly plugging the event, and all his past support.
A couple things regarding the PCW Wrestling event I attended last Saturday-one, my old pal Chet Coppock was there for a while, but I didn’t find that out until after he had already left. I first met Chet back in the Jerry G. Bishop Svengoolie days, and, even though I was just a goofy kid back then, he was always very kind to me. Two- a friend I saw there said that WWE superstar Chris Jericho is a horror film fan- and knows all about Svengoolie! I’d better work on getting him his own Sven shirt!
The long-awaited movie of the best-selling book finally comes out this week- “Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter”! I’ve written about both the book and the upcoming movie before- and I hope any of you who may go see it first thing out of the box (…see what I did there? Vampires? Out of the box? …oops- I didn’t think of the box at the Ford Theater- let me retract that…) –ahem- may go see it on its inaugural weekend (well, at least that is less objectionable, and still retains some presidential flavor) will post your opinions on it here in our comments area.
My brother sent me an interesting link- that lead to a brief animation “pencil test” for “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”- in which Roger’s voice, instead of being Charles Fleischer, is done by Paul “Pee Wee Herman” Ruebens! ( A pencil test is some bare bones animation used to show how a certain movement works- it literally looks like a pencil line sketch, without colors filled in). There is also a clip of Jessica Rabbit dressed much more conservatively (what fun is that?!)-but- also with a voice other than Kathleen Turner. It winds up with what looks like an early attempt to have an animated character walk through a real-life scene. If you’d like to take a look:
Did I mention that it is now meteorologically summer? It’s true- ask Tom Skilling!
Happy Summer Solstice, Sven. The sun is only somewhat down this evening around here. Still no sign of Skilling though.
Sven/Rich, Chicago O’Hare and Midway airports have both recorded (13) 90 plus days to date..all during the Spring season. Yesterday, at 609pm CDT, the Summer Solstice occurred. It looks like a cooler and less humid week ahead for the first week of Summer which is just fine with me! Now, if we could just get a little rain..A nighttime thunderstorm would be even better!
If all goes according to plan, I will be attending the Friday, 6:30 pm. 3D showing at the River East 21, of, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. (I was one of the fans / proponents of the book last year.)
Back in 1987 or so, I took a girlfriend to a wrestling match at the Rosemont Horizon, (as it was then called), and Chet Cupcake was the ring announcer.
Hi Sven, I live in EGV so I am hoping to see you on one of those days this weekend. Keep an eye on Mayor Johnson and count your fingers after shaking hands.
Also, isn’t it Kathleen Turner? I should have probably looked that up before I started typing this but I am pretty sure she is a ‘leen’ and not an ‘erin’ although I do believe she is Irish. Happy Summer Mr. G.
Jerry- you are right, and I am wrong- it IS “Kathleen”- and I have corrected it in the blog- thank you for catching it!
i read the book twice, since i enjoyed it that much. i plan on seeing the movie too. but, when my work schedule at meijer doesn’t get in the way. it tends to do that a lot, lol! i lll let you know here too. later…
