Tonight on Svengoolie- Me-TV gets down- waaay down below the earth’s surface- to a hidden civilization that has enslaved the bizarre mutant “Mole People”!
Stay awake during the opening “lecture” by Dr. Frank Baxter and witness this 1956 tale of archeologists who travel to a mountain top in order to discover the remains of an ancient civilization- only to have a sinkhole swallow up one of the party. As the others descend in a rescue attempt- they find themselves trapped by an additional cave-in- which eventually leads them to the still-thriving ancient civilization they had been searching for- living far below the earth’s surface. They have enslaved another group of underground dwellers- the strange humanoid yet animal Mole People! The archeologists only defense is their flashlight- which repels these dwellers in darkness.
Proving that political intrigue is not just a surface world tactic- the underground dwellers plot to kill the surface men- and a final battle between those from above and below is on the horizon (is there a horizon underground?)
This is a favorite 50s sci fi film, with the Mole People a distinctive “monster” of that era.Among the stars- John Agar, Hugh “Ward Cleaver” Beaumont, and another familiar face- Alan Napier. We’ll tell you all about them in the show, along with some additional Sven fun!
“Mole People” gets uncovered tonight on Me-TV at 10 pm eastern and pacific, 9 pm central, or- check your local listings for the time where you are. In Chicago, you’ll see the encore of “Dr. Cyclops” at 11 am on WCIU- the U!
