You’ve been hearing about it, and possibly seen the prototype- and now- tonight- you get to see the brand new Svengoolie coffin, crafted by the talented folks at Acme Design, Inc. ! Plus- it’s a brand new show-the first in this themed month we’ve christened “Back to Ghoul”-in which a nasty scientist can turn man into a controlled monster- in “The Mad Ghoul”!
This 1943 chiller features George Zucco as a professor who has discovered an ancient Mayan secret- a gas that can put a living creature into a “dead/alive” state! After successfully testing it on a monkey- he comes up with a plan to test it on a human being- and using the manipulation of said mindless human ghoul to gain what he wants- including the lifeless lackey’s beloved !
There’s only one problem- to maintain the “living death”- one needs a secret ingredient to add to the Mayan formula- a human heart! When newly buried bodies- and recently alive bodies- begin to turn up with their hearts missing- the police realize that something evil is afoot- as the professor and his minion try to complete the dastardly prof’s scheme!
You’ll enjoy some familiar actors in this film- whom we’ll point out- plus- we’ll be chronicling the history and development of our new coffin-which you will be seeing in all our new shows from here on (note: don’t be confused when the old coffin reappears in upcoming shows- that just means parts of them were shot previously.)
I want to personally thank- again- the creative wizards of Acme Design, Inc.- whose hard work has gone above and beyond the call of duty to provide what will be THE Sven coffin from now on. Our beloved old coffin, which has served us (and the original Sven, Jerry G. Bishop) so well- and is in a pretty fragile state at this point- is destined to reside in Chicago’s Museum of Broadcast Communications- with its dedication on tap for sometime next year. Something tells me that the new coffin will someday be sharing that honor with it!
You won’t want to miss it, or “The Mad Ghoul”- on Me-TV tonight at 10 pm eastern and pacific, 9 pm central, and at whatever time it runs in your area- pleas consult your local listings. For our Chicago audience, you’ll see the old coffin along with “Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy”- this morning at 11 am on WCIU- the U!
Join us as we go “Back to Ghoul” this month-as we will also be starting our Halloween season public appearance tour! We’ll be posting the schedule gradually here on our site- just check in under the “appearances” tab every so often for all the details (you’ll also get the info first if you sign up for the monthly newsletter- which comes out around the first of each month, and includes the upcoming month’s movie schedule as well as where I’ll be appearing!) You can also follow me on Twitter – @svengoolie – and on Facebook- look for the our fan page- https://www.facebook.com/pages/Svengoolie/127241433996722 -please note- that is the ONLY Svengoolie fan page that WE run!
We’ll also be attempting to blog a little more this month- not sure if we can return to daily blogging, but- we’ll do as much as we can.
Let us know what you think of the new coffin!
