Svengoolie chats with makeup artists at Flashback Weekend, including Hollywood makeup guru Robert Kurtzman.
Thanks for the video, Sven. Didn’t even know about the competition. The one Looked like a blue vampire with braces, and of course it was great to see guy who did Freddie’s make-up job. Must require patience from Robert England and others. Hope his face didn’t itch! Is your make up person entering next year?
Sven how fun of a job you have. Was he as excited to see you as you were to talk to him? Thank you so much for sharing your dream world with us.
I’d love to know who does Kerwyn’s makeup.
Mad Max- I understand that Sven does his own makeup. And writing. And props. Probably wardrobe. He could sweep the Oscars if they’d let him enter :).
Well, I hope Me-TV ponied up a raise for Svengoolie while gilding the lily with the lavish new set. While I’m sure Sven is a master of his ‘look’, I would have no problem with the studio providing a consultant when it comes to hair and makeup. There have been some darling revolutions in hair styling since the 1970’s. I’d like to see him in something of an “up do”. And he could be the most exciting face of Max Factor since Miss Constance Bennett with the promotion of a cosmetic line designed for the ghoul community.
Thanks for sharing all of this with us!!!! Awesome, and very interesting–and informative!!!! What fun to interview these talented people. It sounds as though a great day was had by all!!!! I am looking forward to seeing Joan Crawford’s VERY VERY SCARY eyebrows in the flick this weekend. Count me in to watch this one for sure…even if I ahve to take a nap at the tollway oasis in my car on the way home from work. It will be TOTALLY worth it!!!! NO WIRE HANGERS!!!! 🙂
Sorry…I can not spell tonight–I HAVE to get some sleep!!!! Otherwise I will be destined to more typos…!!!! 🙂
Sven really does his own make up ? I never would have thought that.
Makeup?? I thought Sven was born that way!
Tygercat: I was just having some fun because Sven made those jokes about himself. That’s interesting he does his own. I’m glad I changed my name to Mad Max with another Max on the site. I’m sure the other Max doesn’t want to be confused with me! Ha Ha!
Texas Deb: I think when he was born, instead of crying, he said
Svengoolie , was using the YouTube , and came across Svengoolie on METV. The part I want to comment on, is the car art with cars on a spindle. Been a while since I read it, but I believe that was in Weird Illinois , the book. My cousin told me they had taken it apart, but I didn’t remember that was in Berwyn. On Wikapedia it said the mayor of Berwyn wanted to keep it, but others thought it was an ” eyesore”. I have a feeling you were not one of those people. They were talking about getting extra funds to restore two of the cars on the spindle. Too bad the “non weird” people took it down. If you check out the Weird books, they have a chapter on every state with stuff like that, even a house made of beer cans I believe it was, or another guy had statues of dinosaurs.
I also saw your Too hot for TV. That was great Sven. Tailored made for me. Love when Doug says your out of tune, and you start fighting him! Great stuff. Very funny. Put it on favorites.
Too tough for Tv, that is
Sven, maybe I was wrong about your show Too tough for TV. It’s not available in stores, it’s not available by mail, it’s not available ANYWHERE! I’m writing to my Congressman!
I’m writing mine too! DVD sets!
Couldn’t we just print out the blog on a computer every day and bind it at the state nd of the season? And make it free to those who want it? Shipping only?
Goodness Rod. Spell check is killing me. Don’t sleep at the wheel, we need you.
Rox! See what I say?
In case I forgot..Face Off is a must see!
Thanks for the special treat, Sven!
I need a wig, since I’m sporting the Richard Deacon/Dr. Phil look!
Major Mudd: If you do get a wig, don’t get cocky about having a lot of hair, or it might get thrown out a window like in that Seinfeld episode. ” I Hate this thing! And here’s what I’m doing with it!”
Mad Max, re: the Spindle of Berwyn. Just prior to it being torn down, I was part of a huge Critical Mass bicycle ride from downtown Chicago to Berwyn, as the Save the Spindle Ride. It was a tricky ordeal to get close to 1,000 cyclists there, but, once we hit the Berwyn town limits, the local police controlled traffic for us the rest of the way. A bunch of local bar owners even footed the bill for Save the Spindle t-shirts, which were passed out at the Chicago Daley Plaza Picasso sculpture. I wore mine for Sven at a Houby Day parade, but, the Spindle was gone by then. A bit of Berwyn history.
Greg V. : No one can say you didn’t try with the bicycle effort, and that’s all you can do, besides getting more political with petitions, but of course such a coarse is more about raising awareness, and everyone in the town Probally knew what was going on already. As far as showing the opposition the petition numbers, your bike rally did about the same.
What’s really funny, as I’m a Sven fan, Berwyn almost seems like OZ. A magical place where people dress like Sven or some other way to show their uniqueness with a weird twist, but of coarse it’s a normal town. It’s not that the car art was beautiful to me, but it was different, and did they really need a Walgreens right there?
Svengoolie: Watched the video again. Freddie’s make up guy, Robert K., said it wasn’t his job to make Mr. England comfortable during the applying of the make up, but it was his job to torture him. They must give Robert E. his claw glove after the make up job. Otherwise…..
Greg V: The car spindle is also history from a movie, Bill and Teds. Forgot to add that as a reason to keep it.
Sven: Rewatched Frankensteins Ghost. I’ll save blog space, but loved the jokes from the dummies. that was a really weird scene with you as dumby by the way. Also the Monsters coming out of the closet was great, and the Svensurround with saying witch looking lady from Vincent Price movie was on skateboard. that was a cool effect of how she just glided by!
Sven, how about a documentary, on documentaries ? OW OW OW!
freddy is cool
